The 3rd Guitar Hero title and the 4th in the series, Guitar Hero 3 brings gamers back to familiar grounds with a few new features that can be sure to leave them wanting more. This is Activision’s first rhythm based game after separating with Harmonix and they left the development of the game to Neversoft. They kept the look and game play pretty much the same as Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero 2, and then adding elements such as boss battles and a new co-op career mode. The game has 70 brand new songs on its roster most of which were the original masters from the bands themselves. On top of the songs already available, the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions allow gamers to download new tracks to their hard drives, so the song lists in theory limitless. The game is still played with a guitar peripheral that gamers used to strum successive notes as they appear on screen. Gamers earn points for each note they hit, and the point values increases the more notes you hit in succession. Though the developers have changed, Guitar Hero 3 has lived up to the hype and was one of the top selling games in 2007, grossing over $100,000,000.00 after its first week alone.
